How to Catch a Leprechaun!

Kids sure learn from other kids fast.  We hadn't even mentioned that St Patrick's Day was coming up to our kids, but they found out in church (the day before St. Patrick's Day).  Avery came home all excited to tell us about the Green Holiday and that we all needed to make sure that we wore green.  He kept reminding Brian to wear green for the next day and talked about it in his prayers (we talked him about appropriate prayers).  He knew that people got pinched if they didn't wear green on St Patrick's Day and was determined to save us all that ill fated surprise.
On St Patrick's Day Avery wanted to do something fun because he was bored.  So we got looking on Pinterest for some fun St Patrick's Day crafts.  Then he saw one that he HAD to do- which ended up actually being instructions about making a Leprechaun Trap.  I (Amanda) had heard about people doing the whole "trapping a Leprachaun" but I was never on the ball quick enough to prepare for such a thing.  However, since Avery really seemed excited about the craft, I decided we'd do it just for the day.
So I exclaimed what a Leprechaun was and how it had a pot of gold that if you caught him, he would give it to you.  I also told Avery & Lily that he was a little tiny guy and very mischievous.  They were all in for it!  So we gathered up supplies and made 4 traps for him!

Avery made a Leprechaun "Hotel."  The Leprechaun would get tricked into thinking he was climbing up the ladder into the hotel but fall into the bucket and be trapped behind the "hotel"

Mommy and Lily made a Leprechaun Hat with a gold medal on top to entice the Leprechaun to climb the ladder and get it.  When he steps on the top, which is just tissue paper, he could fall through and be trapped!

Avery decided that the Leprechaun would probably want some food.  So he got some Red Waldrof Cake (we had the night before) and put it on a piece of paper (for a plate) and got a small medicine cup and put juice in it for him.  Then mommy got cherrios to dip in frosting for mini "donuts" for the Leprechaun.  We set the picnic up under our ice cream bucket trap.

don't mind the misspelling of Leprechaun...

Lily set her trap up downstairs with her flowers she made to make it seem pretty for the Leprechaun.

Avery set it up in Mom & Dad's room (with more flowers)

The hidden bucket

Then Mommy made a fun one out of a hanger, string and paper bowl.  When he takes the pot of gold, it would release the bowl "cloud" above him and would trap him!

Our Leprechaun was quite tricky during the day!  He made a mess of the bathroom, but managaed to escape down the vent.  He turned the water green in the fridge and the toilet.  He strung toilet paper around downstairs and nocked over papers and things in the living room.  And he managed to get away from all the traps!  All day Avery & Lily were looking for him and asking when he was going to come.  It was so cute!

Grandma and Grandpa Downs came by to visit and while we were out getting green ice cream (Arctic Circle colored theirs green for the day), our tricky Leprechaun struck again!  This time, he got into the flour and made a trail all the way to Avery's Leprechaun Hotel.  He wasn't in the trap though- he managed to escape!  However, he left us a note with a bunch of "Rolo" gold.  The note told the kids that they were pretty smart and almost caught him, but he still got away.  He let him have some of his too-heavy gold.  The kids just loved it!
