Happy Halloween 2014

We had a lot of fun for Halloween this year.  The kids had their own ideas about what they wanted to be, Mason discovered what the holiday was all about and we got way too much candy for anyone's good.

We did a night of pumpkin carving.  Mason just painted his pumpkin...and his face because he decided to kiss his pumpkin after he painted it.  The other kids had fun digging their pumpkin guts out and then Mason discovered what that was...and had a lot of fun so we ended up carving his pumpkin so he could get the guts.  They turned out pretty good!

Then we got all dressed up for Halloween!  We had been to a couple of things for halloween- a ward christmas party as well as Avery's school party and Lily's school party.  It was fun to get dressed up everytime!  However...it was stressful too.
So Lily was going to be Sleeping Beauty.  It WAS her favorite princess.  And I, Amanda, thought, good its not going to be Elsa like every other four year old girl on the planet is going to be.  And I thought, well this could be fun to match with my little girl...so....I decided I would be Maleficent.  I got my costume all ready and even made a costume for Mason to be the crow to match us.   Then a week before Halloween Lily declares she is going to be Elsa.  Great.  She refuses to be anything but her beloved new favorite princess (or Queen?)  Elsa.   So I tried to make her an Elsa dress that would last a LONG time.  However, she refused to wear  it.  Her friend had borrowed her one that was so much cuter but also not very well made (as most costumes are) and she ended up wearing that instead.  oh well.
Avery wanted to be a snake.  He was convinced that he would slither to each and everyhouse.  He also wanted to be a rattlesnake so the costume had to have a rattle in it.  So, as his mom, kept thinking, "how am I to make him a snake costume that wont look like a lizard?"  Well I found this fabric at Walmart for $1.50 a yard and it was absolutely PERFECT.  I managed to make him a costume and I think it turned out great.   Avery loved it and that is all that mattered.  I guess it was meant to be.  I think it is kind of fun to make their costumes.
The actual Halloween night was PERFECT warm weather.  I was afraid we would all have to wear coats like we usually do for past Halloweens (I remember always designing our costumes around snowsuits because sometimes there was snow on the ground).
We walked the whole neigborhood- and got sooooo much candy.  It was fun.  Mason figured out what the candy was and did not want us to take any of it out (even when his bucket was overflowing and he kept dropping it).  He also wanted to walk the whole way...oh well.

side note.  So Brian said he did NOT want to dress up...until a couple of days before and then decided maybe he would.  So without much time and resources, we sorta dress him up at Diablo off of Malefient (minus the revealing chest) so it wasn't much of a costume but oh well.
